Schnucks to remodel Ballwin store – Thursday, March 31, 2011

Schnuck Markets Inc. said Wednesday it plans a multimillion-dollar renovation of its store in Ballwin Plaza.

Chairman and CEO Scott Schnuck said the family-owned grocery chain will launch a remodel of its 62,000-square-foot store at 15425 Manchester Road in June to be completed by year’s end.

The project includes floor-to-ceiling décor changes that will mirror the company’s Des Peres flagship store. Approximately 75 percent of the existing shelving will be replaced, and new frozen and refrigerated cases will be installed.

The renovation coincides with other upgrades planned by Ballwin Plaza landlord Weingarten Realty, Scott Schnuck said.

Store Manager Laurie Grooms has worked at Schnucks for nearly 35 years and has managed the Ballwin store for the past 14.

The project is one of several major remodels Schnucks has undertaken in the past 18 months, he said.

Schnuck Markets Inc. operates 105 stores, including five Logli stores, in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi. Is it one of the largest privately held companies in St. Louis with $2.5 billion in revenue in 2010.
