One of St. Louis’ most critically acclaimed new restaurants is expanding.
Nudo House [represented by L3’s Kevin Shapiro], the popular Creve Coeur, Missouri, ramen joint, plans to open a second location in the Delmar Loop next year, as first reported by St. Louis Magazine. Located at 6105 Delmar Blvd. on the ground floor of the upcoming Everly On the Loop high-rise development, the new restaurant will be located next to Delmar Hall and across the street from Guerrilla Street Food and Tavolo V.
Nudo House opened in Creve Coeur almost exactly one year ago after years of planning by co-owners Qui Tran, whose family owns the venerable Mai Lee, and chef Marie-Anne Velasco. Diners won’t have to wait quite as long for the second location; Tran says the restaurant is on track for an opening in March or April of 2019. The new location also marks something of a homecoming for Tran, whose family opened the original location of Mai Lee at Delmar Blvd. and I-170 in the mid-80s.
“When I first got approached about it, I really liked the area,” he says. “Part of that, too, is that we started out on Delmar, so it kind of has a nostalgic feel for me, because 34 years later, I’m going to be back on Delmar where it all started.”
Diners can expect to see a similar menu at the new location, including Nudo’s signature ramen bowls, pho, and sandwiches like the Bánh Mì Pho Dip. Tran says the Loop location will likely also run more specials, and he’s hoping to add an expanded sake list and boozy Asian slushies.
With 70 seats inside, the new location will be slightly bigger (and less shotgun-style) than the Creve Coeur restaurant. An outdoor patio with community-style tables will seat between 20 to 30 additional diners. “I really like that concept,” Tran says. “I think as a society we need to all sit together and talk to one another.”
Although nothing is set in stone, Tran says diners could see a third location of Nudo House in the future. “If we do it right and everyone’s happy, a third store is definitely a possibility,” he says. “I can’t say no because I was really focused on just one Nudo and then this opportunity came along and I was like, ‘You know what? I think this would be a great idea.’ We’re very appreciative; we couldn’t do it without he support of the community. We’re just going to try and put our best food forward and go from there.”
